Moses Fowler came to Lafayette with John Purdue to go into the mercantile business. He became a financier of great
wealth. Moses foresaw the opportunity of agriculture and he and his brother-in-law, Adams Earl, also, financier
accumulate land in the county totaling over 30,000 acres. Moses Fowler gave the land in which the town of Fowler was
established.
