Murrayville was named for John Patrick Murray; who owned an Inn that was a stopover for people on their way to the gold fields of Dahlonega--Dahlonega was the the site of the first gold rush in U.S.A. The census of 1820 showed John P. Murray as Postmaster and Murrayville had a population of 62.
