The name of the original site now known as Cutler, IL was Lost Prairie. Early settlers traveling from Vandalia, IL to Chester, IL would sometimes get lost in the area now known as Cutler. Eventually, the name of Lost Prairie was given to this area prior to its being named Cutler.
